Welcome to Europeana Food and Drink News!
Europeana Food and Drink is an initiative aiming to explore and demonstrate the commercial potential of Europe’s rich food and drink heritage. Under this initiative the 28 European partners, which includes leading content providers, technologists and creative industries, will work side by side in order to develop a suite of inspiring applications and products featuring food and drink related digital content.
In this quarterly released newsletter we would like to highlight the latest news from the project, inform you about activities which are running and coming soon, and give you an insight into the ‘behind the scenes’ work. We hope you enjoy reading it.
In this last Europeana Food and Drink Newsletter, we are giving an insight into our final All Partners Meeting, taking place in Budapest beginning of June. For the end of the project, we have now reached almost 70,000 images uploaded on the Europeana portal through Europeana Food and Drink. In our fresh Spring Newsletter, we are proud to announce achieving more than 60,000 images uploaded on Europeana through our project. The winner of our third and final Open Innovation Challenge, awarded in Seville, Spain is presented. The 7th PMB Meeting took place in Athens, updating the Project Management Board. Further, you can now taste historical Europe and explore the culinary threads between Austria and Lithuania in our new eCookbook, one of the additional products created within Europeana Food and Drink. In our 7th issue of the Europeana Food and Drink Newsletter, we are showing achievements and activities from the last three months, including the launch of our products and the All Partners Meeting, happening end of November in Malta. The Food and Drink Content, sourced through the rich collections of project partners, is now live on Europeana. In the September issue of our newsletter, a first taste of the Europeana Food and Drink applications is presented. We are introducing the London Local Pubs Book and our virtual and touring exhibition on Cake, illustrate food and drink history in photographs of the EU Food and Drink Picture Library, wander along the Tea Trail London and get you challenged with Food Planet, our Food & Drink Social Game. Also, it’s time for our third and last open innovation challenge, inviting especially craftsmen and creatives to design products using Europeana’s digital content.

Newsletter #5, issued end of May, focuses on the Open Innovation Challenges within the project. We are introducing the WP 4 Lead Università di Roma “La Sapienza”, responsible for creating collaborative environments drawing on the extended network of Europeana Open Labs and carrying out all of the three Europeana Food and Drink Challenges. Shift, work package lead for WP 5 Public Engagement, is introduced in this third issue of the Europeana Food and Drink Newsletter. A project update meeting in Rome has been taken as opportunity to continue discussions on the project methodology and development of the Europeana Labs environment. In the 2nd issue of our newsletter, we introduce Postscriptum, work package lead coordinating the selection and preparation of the digital content for Europeana Food and Drink. We further recap on the second Project Management Board meeting, held mid of June in Rome and present the opportunities of the project. As result of the first period of learning and research to understand needs of cultural heritage partners and the food and drink industry, the start of the product development process is launched. Our first Europeana Food and Drink Newsletter is highlighting the vision of the project: promoting the wider re-use of digital cultural heritage by the Creative Industries in order to boost creativity and business development across Europe, all around the tasteful theme of food and drink. At the Kick-off Meeting beginning of 2014 in London, all 29 project partners met for the first time to learn about the projects’ goals and challenges. Work packages, milestones and tasks were presented by the leaders. The coordinator of the project, Collections Trust, is introduced.
